Cannytrophic Design (CTD) is a shared and managed studio, shop and lab space located at 36 W. Broadway in South Boston. The Cannytrophic Design Expo is an annual event showcasing media and technology design by local artists and Cannytrophic Design Staff. Curated by Stripy Cat and Nik James, the Expo was first presented in April 2009 in an attempt to establish a dialogue between the brain trust at CTD and like minded artists from the Boston area. Leveraging their unique access to empty industrial space, Cannytrophic Design imagined a non-commercial event, more akin to a fair than a gallery. 2010 will continue this tradition. As before, curation looked closely at artists use of media and materials, especially how these categories interact with a public audience. This work will share open space with the latest designs by CTD staff to present, not a survey of local underground art, but an exposition of technological possibilities by some very talented people.
